When we overseed, we spread new grass seed over an existing lawn in order to make it more thick and lush as it grows. Heat, winter weather, and drought are just a few examples of things that can thin out your grass. When we overseed, we reverse this process so your lawn will become as lush as when it was first planted without having to start over.
How do you reseed my lawn? Our reseeding process is fairly simple. First, we mow the lawn short and remove the clippings. This is done so the seed will be able to more effectively enter the soil. Then, we use a seeder to apply the new seed, and your lawn will be back to normal in no time! |

What if my lawn needs an overhaul? An old lawn with problems like excessive patchiness or dead grass may need to be removed and replaced with new grass entirely. We offer several strategies for clearing out the existing grass before we can plant new seed.
How will you prepare the soil for reseeding? Once we remove your old lawn, we will turn the soil about 2 to 3 inches down. We will remove clumps and level the soil with a rake and fill in low spots. This is also when we can install a sprinkler system for convenient watering if you don't have one. Then, we will aerate your soil, especially if you have clay, using a core aerator. After spreading seed-starting fertilizer, we will spread your grass seed!
- Solarizing: When we solarize, we will cover your old grass with clear plastic and let the sun kill it. Then, we will use the dead grass as compost to feed the new seed.
- Layering: Layering involves coving the old grass with newspaper or cardboard, followed by layers of compost and mulch. This will create a new base for your lawn.
- Chemical dispatch: With this method, we get rid of the old lawn with either herbicide or vinegar. This may take several rounds to entirely kill the existing grass.
- Manual removal: Although this approach takes the shortest amount of time, it also takes the most work. When we remove the existing lawn manually, we will use a sod cutter to pull up the lawn and leave a blank canvas for your new seed.
