What's the difference between trimming and pruning? Trimming is used to make sure that the tree grows properly, but pruning is a preventative measure to protect the plant from disease and overgrowth. Tree trimming also removes overgrown portions of the tree to allow other parts to get more moisture and light so they can properly flourish. How often do my trees need trimmed? That generally depends on the tree. Every species of tree is different, and our expert tree trimmers know the needs of many common species in the Lubbock area. However, a good rule of thumb is to have your trees trimmed twice a year. Why is tree trimming important? First of all, tree trimming makes your trees more aesthetically pleasing. You want your property to be attractive, and overgrown or unhealthy trees and bushes will make it appear unkempt. If you're thinking of selling your house, trimming your trees can also enhance curb appeal. Tree trimming is also important for safety and the health of the plant. |

Are there certain times that are better than others to trim my trees? Absolutely. It's strongly advised to trim or prune your plants during their dormant season. The only time you should have one of your trees trimmed outside of its dormant season is if it poses a hazard to your home or yourself. Pine trees are a notable exception to both of these rules. They can be trimmed at any time of year, but even so, it is better to trim them in their dormant season as well.

What are some of your tree trimming strategies? At Tree Trimming in Lubbock, we know the tricks of the trade that normal homeowners may not be aware of. Here's some tips from the experts:
- The maximum diameter of branch we can safely trim is around 5 centimeters. If it's between 5 and 10 centimeters, you may want to reconsider having it trimmed. We only trim branches that are larger than 10 centimeters in diameter for a very good reason, such as a hazard.
- We tend to trim younger branches because they will leave less marks on the tree. Yes, trees "scar" too!
- We have to find the best length to trim the branch to -- it's a bad idea to leave it too long, but we avoid removing the branch collar as well.
- After trimming, the ratio of tree crown to total tree height should be a minimum of 2/3.
- We never trim branches that have a strong, U-shaped angle away from the trunk of the tree.
